Our laboratory has focused on studying various aspects of the innate and adaptive immune response. We look at the host-parasite relationship between mouse B-lymphocytes and Salmonella typhimurium. We aim to understand bacteria's mechanisms to turn B-lymphocytes into their ideal niche to survive prolonged periods without affecting the B lymphocytes' viability. And becoming a persistent bacterium within them and whether this chronic infection could impact the generation of lymphoma and/or leukemia.

On the other hand, we characterize structurally and functionally the CRTAM molecule (Class-I Restricted T cell-Associated Molecule). This protein, also known as CD355, is expressed in activated T cells, NKT lymphocytes, and NK cells. It is also expressed in neutrophils and eosinophils from patients with allergic asthma.  CD355 is essential for CD8 T lymphocytes, NKT, and NK cells to efficiently carry out their cytotoxic and/or IFN-gamma production function. We focused on understanding how its structure participates in the interaction with its ligand, Nectin-like and how it impacts the signaling pathways that CD355 uses to carry out its functions. We are also involved in producing monoclonal antibodies that block the interaction ligand-receptor to stop IFN production.

Additionally, we studied the neutrophils that produce IL-17. Our findings indicate that the frequency of this subpopulation increase in patients with allergic asthma and in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Therefore, we are interested in identifying the molecules that participate in the activation of these neutrophils and the mechanisms that give them the capacity to produce IL-17. To identify targets to block the production of this cytokine during chronic inflammation.
