Curricular summary

Dr. Meraz was born in Mexico City, in 1960. He is Chemical Pharmacist Biologist, graduated from the Faculty of Superior Studies at Autonomous National University of Mexico in 1983. His master’s in sciences was in the Cellular Biology Department at Cinvestav, in 1987 and obtained his PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology at Cinvestav in 1990.

Dr. Meraz did a Postdoctoral training at the Washington University School Medicine, in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, from 1990 to 1995.

From 1995 to date, Dr. Meraz is a Research Professor in the Department of Molecular Biomedicine, and He has been a teacher in the Master and Doctorate programs of the Departament as well as several other Universities, Schools, and Research Centers, national and internationally.

Dr. Meraz has published more than 95 scientific articles in specialized international journals, with more than 6000 citations to his works.

His work has been recognized by the National Investigators System of México and where he has obtained the maximum recorgnition; Level III.

Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Commission for Biosafety of the Genetically Modified Organisms (CIBIOGEM), position of Under-Secretary of State, to coordinate six Secretaries: Education, Health, Agriculture, Environment , Economy, Treasury  and CONACyT, in the matter of Biosafety of the GMOs.

Dr. Meraz, has participated as Mexico representative in Forums of Scientific and Technological Policy, National and Internationally. Dr. Meraz was the Head of the Mexican Delegation, representing Mexico in the Meeting of the Parts of the Cartagena Protocol in 2006.

Dr. Meraz has been the leader of several scientific projects and he has graduated: 20 PhDs students, 35 Masters and 10 Bachelors.
